HELP!! My peace lily quit blooming!!?
I have a peace lily I was given 3 years ago. It has a lot of sentimental value to me. It started blooming great big blooms, and they%26#039;ve gotten smaller and smaller and now there are none. I have it in the place of the house it prefers (a bright bathroom) and I let it droop a little before I water it. I fertilize with houseplant fertilizer. What am I doing wrong?

Hi all Just to let you know that in order for Spathyphilly (Peace Lily) to blossum, the plant must be totally pot bound to the point where only roots are visible when taken out of the pot. When bought the plants are always pot bound and when they end thier flower cycle, they need to be potted into the next size pot. Remember also that they really do not like to be fertilized. If you live in an area with a lot of sun, a tiny bit of organics may not cause salt burn, but as we near the shorter days, fertilizer burn is a major factor for discoloring the tips of the leaves.

Reply:I would separate it into two clumps and repot them in some good rich dirt, then give them some coffee grounds and eggs shells mixed in, I%26#039;d also give them a little rooting hormone for good measure and a bit of liquid plant food, not fertilizer, depending on how they were adapting after the move.

You may even want to divide your peace lilly and have 2. It could have just out grown itself. if you repot it check to see if it was root bound, if so gently loosen up the root system before you repot. don%26#039;t forget to water real well after. hope I helped

ok, both my step-mom and my step-sister are pregnant at the same time. my step sis is having a girl and is going to name her Miley Victoria. my step-mom likes the name Liliana (nn Lily) Shane if hers is a girl and my 9 yo twin sisters couldn%26#039;t be more thrilled that their niece and little sis are gonna be named after Hannah Montana characters (believe me, that was not the intent). by the time these 2 girls reach middle school, will people make fun of them for having these names (considering a lot of teens now consider Hannah Montana to be really childish and stupid)? should i try to convince them to pick other names (not that i%26#039;d be much of an influence anyway..........)?

Could new red lily be causing algae?
I have a 35 gal freshwater tank and recently dropped a couple of red lily plant bulbs in. One has bloomed beautifuly and the other has started. A couple of days ago I noticed a green algae growing on the tank glass and even on some stones. It%26#039;s not like the normal %26quot;fine%26quot; algae I%26#039;ve had that comes off easily with my magnet cleaner. It%26#039;s larger and %26quot;thicker%26quot;. Could the plants be the cause or something else? I do have a plecostomus. Also, is it ok for the fish if I leave the light on all the time?

You should go for 10-12 hours of light per day. That will provide a good balance for your fish and plants and you should see the algae start to die off soon.

I dissected a lily with my students to talk about the sexual reproduction of perfect flowers. I want to know what the ovary looks like as it grows into a fruit, and what the final fruit looks like. My american bulldog Lily is 11mths old, trys to dominate 1 of my other dogs and also my mums dog in her house
i%26#039;ve had lily since she was 8 weeks old, she only does now and again for no reason whatsoever, she will lunge at my other dog lemah, usually though when she is sitting with me as well as lily, but when taken to my mum%26#039;s house she try%26#039;s to over power her small dog tilly, without succes, but with the big boy buthch who is a bit tempramental she will not stop getting in his face, and really seems to be getting aggressive with him. she doesn%26#039;t listen, to me when i get involved in this she seems to lose it, and her behaviour following these incidents is not the same as it usually is, disobeient, ignores me. just not my usual lily. can anyone help?

Help with peace lily and betta fish?
3 weeks ago I received a peace lily in a vase of water with no soil which has a little turquoise betta fish swimming around the roots. I%26#039;ve read about caring for the betta fish and the fish seems to be fine and healthy. But the plant is wilting and drooping and turning yellow!
I only use bottled water. I washed the roots regularily. I kept it away from direct sunlight to prevent algae. But I have no idea how to save the plant.
Any ideas?

Sometimes the peace lily is in shock during the transformation from soil to water and they seldom recover.
Some people think that Bettas can live off of the roots of the peace lily, which is completely untrue, they starve to death. Make sure that you are feeding your Betta food specifically for for Bettas. Frozen blood worms are a great option combined with Betta food, they love them and provide the protein they need. Also, be sure to use purified water and not distilled water.

I got the lily pads from my mom and few days later started to change yellow.
Why are my lily pads from turning yellow?
The leaves on a water lily will turn yellow and brown and eventually die off and get mushy, as part of the normal life cycle. But you should always see one or two new leaves for every leaf that dies off naturally.
Another possibility is that the plant is suffering a form of root rot. How deep is the top of the pot below the water surface? Water depth is very important. Lilies need at least 10-18%26quot; of water over the top of their roots (or the top of the pot). If you pull out the plant and feel the roots, they should be firm like a potato, not mushy. If the roots are firm and the water level is correct, I would look at any products you are putting in the pond.
Last I would look at nourishment, maybe you are under or over fertilizing the plant. Lilies are very heavy feeders and do best with monthly fertilizing (with an aquatic plant fertilizer tablet). It could also be a combination of factors such as parasites, rot and water quality. Water lilies do not like high pH, (over 9.0 makes some varieties go dormant).
