Is the Lily the flower of death?

I am doing a presentation, and have a section of the presentation relating to flowers. I%26#039;m fairly sure that the Lily is a flower of death, but need to be sure. Does

Is the Lily the flower of death?
The lily has traditionally used in coffins and according to experts, the poet Keats used it because, %26quot;it symbolized death.%26quot; %26quot;Tombstone Art and Symbols%26quot; said of the lily, %26quot;The use of lilies at funerals symbolizes the restored innocence of the soul at death.%26quot;
Reply:personally always associated the Lily as a rebirth and triumph over death
Reply:I know what you are talking about and have seen it, but I can not find info on the web about it being used in funerals. The flower is calla or arum lily or Zantedeschia aethiopica. It is not a true lily though. Actually is a spathe with the flowers inside (the yellow inside is actually a ton of tiny flower)
Reply:No, it is used in a lot of weddings also, which could symbolize death now that you mention it!!! hahaha!
Reply:possibly, i know someone very allergic and they died from it
Reply:The Lily is the flower of death. But also a black rose symbolizes death.
Reply:no its hermun munsters wife
Reply:Lilies are not the death flower. Orchids are. Lilies (I think) are like spring and new beginnings and life. Orchids are definately the death flower.
Reply:the white lily is not necessarily a symbol of death.....but a symbol of purity. Think of it respectfully.
Reply:Er...not sure about lillies, but I%26#039;ve always thought anemones were the death-flowers...

The lily is mentioned in the Bible. Often called the ~white-robed apostles of hope~ lilies were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ%26#039;s crucifixtion. White lilies are said to have sprung up where drops of Christ%26#039;s sweat fell to the ground from the cross. Traditionally, Easter Lilies are arranged in churches, during Easter, to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Reply:There were many story tellers that use the lily as their symbols. But it is the orchid that can be considered the flower of death......... Not a water lily..................
Reply:I just remember the old cartoons, where the characters, when killed would lay down and be holding a giant lily.
Reply:Not sure. I know white roses are. And posies.

The Lily is used at Easter time. Possibly more celibrating resurrection? And life.
Reply:not that i know of
