Peace Lily under attack?

I have a peace lily that%26#039;s been with me for years. A few days ago, I noticed that it was surrounded by small dead insects, that looked very much like gnats, wings and all.

Could they actually have been gnats? Or is there some other look-alike that is trying to eat away at my peace lily? Or do you suppose that they were doing no harm at all? I noticed that none of the leaves are damaged; no holes where they%26#039;ve been eaten through...

check the condition of the roots

if they look healthy then no worries

the presence of gnats usually indicates rot somewhere
